Heron Consulting become Cisco registeredAs part of defining the strategic direction for Heron Consulting, certain alliances are being forged. Historically, those with Zedmed (www.zedmed.com.au), Kyocera (www.kyoceramita.com.au), VMware (www.vmware.com), as well as others like Microsoft and Flexirent have empowered us to be able to create tailored solutions for our members, offering best-of-breed characteristics. As part of this process, we have recently registered with Cisco. This is the first stage in our Cisco certification process. We have wanted to add additional resources to our team but our existing offices were just too small to cram in more bodies. Gary brings with him a wealth of computing knowledge, particularly surrounding Windows migration and security. Expect more additions this year! The Forrest Medical Group opened its doors for the first time at Murray Districts Hospital in Pinjarra, becoming the first centre of its kind in Western Australia. This represented the culmination of 5 years hard work by Dr’s Peter and Patricia Wallace, along with the considerable efforts of all of their excellent team.At the Forrest Medical Group, all Patient notes are electronic. All incoming Australia-post is scanned and shredded. All results from Pathology providers and Radiology providers are delivered electronically, in an encrypted state. Additionally, they operate a number of satellite practices, the largest being in Waroona. Real-time access to patient data, in a secured environment, from any secured location forms part of the backbone of Patient care. If any of these systems fails, patient care may be adversely affected. That same Monday represented a slightly different set of challenges for the staff of Heron Consulting. Heron Consulting is a premier IT company specializing in the Medical Industry, based in the Peel region of Western Australia. They pride themselves of being able to “think Medical”, rather than being generic and offering predictive solutions to meet the specific needs of medical professionals. Heron Consulting was appointed as the technical authority for ensuring that all of the disparate systems required to make this “superclinic” function. Timescales were tight – the then current Forrest House clinic was to close on Friday 17th and the new clinic must open Monday 20th. Without fail. Everything was planned down to the tiniest detail. Contingency plans were devised to mitigate the risk of any component or system failure. The servers were shutdown and moved, the new PC’s delivered (pre-built in the technical lab at Heron Consulting), the printers connected, all of the remaining electronic jiggery-pokery was achieved, resulting in a working system by Saturday lunchtime. This left some time to fine-tune the operation of the system as a whole and provide some on-the-spot education & training to the on-site staff. Let’s take another look at Monday 20th October. The doors open on the new clinic and cheery and confident staff wait to tend the patients. For a new facility, it is remarkable how the sense of calm pervades what should be a hectic opening (Shouldn’t it?). It should have been manic, but there was just a sense of “rightness”. 5 years is quite a long time to see a business dream come to fruition, particularly when the key players are doing it as well as their full-time jobs. The staff knew what to do and the computers didn’t skip a beat. That’s gotta be good!
